DWG
AutoCAD drawing
DWG is AutoCAD's native drawing format and the most common CAD file in architecture and engineering. Without AutoCAD or a DWG viewer it is hard to open or share.
Extensions: .dwg
Convert DWG files to DXF on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto DXF in Filee's format donut and the DXF files appear next to the originals.
In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one DWG file or as many as you like.
Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.
Release the files over DXF. A progress ring counts up, and each DXF file is saved next to its original.
DXF is the interchange format that laser cutters, CNC software and most CAD programs read. Converting DWG to DXF lets you open AutoCAD drawings in those tools, and DXF back to DWG works too.

Drawing Exchange Format
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is Autodesk's interchange format for CAD drawings. Laser cutters, CNC software and most CAD programs read it, so it is the usual way to move drawings between tools.
