HEIC
HEIC / HEIF image
HEIC (HEIF) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. Photos are often about half the size of a JPG, but many Windows apps, websites and older devices can't open them.
Extensions: .heic .heif
Convert HEIC files to JPG on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto JPG in Filee's format donut and the JPG files appear next to the originals.
In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one HEIC file or as many as you like.
Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.
Release the files over JPG. A progress ring counts up, and each JPG file is saved next to its original.
JPG is the safe choice when a website, an older Windows app or someone without an iPhone needs your photos. A whole batch of HEIC photos converts at once, and each JPG is saved next to its original.

JPEG is the most widely used photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, but every save at lower quality discards some detail, and it has no transparency.
