CR2
Canon CR2 RAW photo
CR2 is the RAW photo format Canon DSLRs used for many years (newer Canon models write CR3). It stores the unprocessed sensor data, which leaves plenty of room for editing.
Extensions: .cr2
Convert CR2 files to JPG on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto JPG in Filee's format donut and the JPG files appear next to the originals.
In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one CR2 file or as many as you like.
Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.
Release the files over JPG. A progress ring counts up, and each JPG file is saved next to its original.
Drop a whole memory card's worth of CR2 files at once: Filee converts them in parallel and saves each JPG next to its RAW file. Newer Canon cameras write CR3, which Filee reads as well.

JPEG image
JPEG is the most widely used photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, but every save at lower quality discards some detail, and it has no transparency.
