MP4
MPEG-4 video
MP4 (MPEG-4 Part 14) is the most compatible video format. It plays on phones, TVs, browsers and every video site, usually with H.264 or H.265 video and AAC audio.
Extensions: .mp4
Convert MP4 files to JPG on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto JPG in Filee's format donut and the JPG files appear next to the originals.
In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one MP4 file or as many as you like. The first time, Filee offers to download FFmpeg, the free engine it uses for this conversion.
Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.
Release the files over JPG. A progress ring counts up, and each JPG file is saved next to its original.
A video dropped on JPG gives one still picture. To pick a thumbnail or go through a clip frame by frame, use the Extract frames (JPG) preset: the pictures land in a folder next to the video, every frame or every Nth. A video that would give more than 100,000 pictures or fill the disk is refused before it starts.

JPEG image
JPEG is the most widely used photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, but every save at lower quality discards some detail, and it has no transparency.
