JPEG is the most widely used photo format. Its lossy compression keeps files small, but every save at lower quality discards some detail, and it has no transparency.

Convert JPG files to PNG on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto PNG in Filee's format donut and the PNG files appear next to the originals.
In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one JPG file or as many as you like.
Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.
Release the files over PNG. A progress ring counts up, and each PNG file is saved next to its original.
Converting JPG to PNG doesn't bring back detail lost to JPG compression, but it stops further loss: every later edit and save stays lossless. Convert before you retouch an image or add transparency in an editor.

PNG is a lossless image format with transparency, ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges. Photos saved as PNG are usually much larger than JPG.
