JSON to YAML converter

Convert JSON files to YAML on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto YAML in Filee's format donut and the YAML files appear next to the originals.

How to convert JSON to YAML on Windows

  1. 1

    Select your JSON files

In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one JSON file or as many as you like.

  2. 2

    Hold Ctrl and drag

Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.

  3. 3

    Drop on YAML

Release the files over YAML. A progress ring counts up, and each YAML file is saved next to its original.

What Filee does for JSON → YAML

YAML is easier to read and edit by hand, which is why config files use it. Keys keep their order, and text that would read back as a number or true/false is quoted.

  • Built in: works right after installing Filee, with nothing else to download.
  • Batch: one file or hundreds, converted in parallel; a failure never stops the rest.
  • Private: files are converted on your PC and never uploaded, even without internet.
  • Saved next to the original, or in a folder and with a file name pattern you choose.

JSON can also become

  • JSON Lines
  • TOML
  • XML
  • CSV
  • XLSX

About JSON and YAML

JSON

JSON data

JSON is the data format of the web: objects, lists, text and numbers in plain text. APIs, apps and settings files use it everywhere.

Extensions: .json

YAML

YAML data

YAML holds the same kind of data as JSON, written with indentation instead of brackets. Config files for Docker, Kubernetes, CI pipelines and many apps are YAML.

Extensions: .yaml .yml
