M4A
MPEG-4 audio
M4A is an MPEG-4 audio file, usually AAC, used by iTunes, iPhone voice memos and many recorders. It sounds good at small sizes, but some players and car stereos only take MP3.
Extensions: .m4a
Convert M4A files to MP3 on Windows 10 and 11: free, offline and in batches. Drag the files onto MP3 in Filee's format donut and the MP3 files appear next to the originals.
In File Explorer or on the desktop, select one M4A file or as many as you like. The first time, Filee offers to download FFmpeg, the free engine it uses for this conversion.
Hold Ctrl (or the key you set in Filee) and drag the files. A donut of formats opens at the cursor. Prefer menus? Right-click and choose Convert with Filee.
Release the files over MP3. A progress ring counts up, and each MP3 file is saved next to its original.
iPhone voice memos, DRM-free iTunes downloads and many recorders produce M4A. MP3 is accepted by every player, car stereo and upload form.
